A hardy spinach variety with decorative and edible red berry like seed clusters. Leaves are mild in flavour when fully green and pick up a bitter flavour with a red-purplish colour underneath in cold (near five degrees Celsius) temperatures. ‘Strawberry’ seed clusters make a nice addition to salads or eaten as a fruit but watch out – they dye fingers and fabrics pink and you may have competition with birds. Direct sow about 2/3 inch or . cm deep and thin to 9 inches or 23 cm if desiring whole plants. Seed will often over winter under snow and sprout in spring as an early green. Is self-seeding if the majority of ‘strawberries’ are not picked.
