Very similar flavour to gooseberries, they find use anywhere where you would use a tart berry or fruit and store/winter well somewhere cool. Their papery lanterns should be kept on while storing with removal prior to cooking or if they show signs of mold/decay. May be picked green or white at end of season if needed and allowed to ripen during storage, otherwise, allow them to drop off the plant and collect from the ground. Direct sow .-1/2 inch (0.5-1 cm) deep and thin to 1 .-2 feet apart (45-60 cm) with rows separated 3 feet (90 cm). They may also be started indoors prior to last frost.
