Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)
Although these may be direct sown after last frost when the ground is workable about 1 1/2 inches (3 cm) deep and apart, they may also be ‘pre-started’ by soaking between wet paper towels for a few days and then transplanted root side down.
Cross of purple peacock, blue coco and Mennonite K triple A. These are productive, purple stemmed, flowered and podded beans that love to climb up trellis and fences to heights higher than you can easily pick if you let them. The bean pods may be eaten as snaps once they turn purple (will turn green once fully cooked) or kept until much longer and fuller for drying purposes. Produce a tan-beige-white seed that may be used in soups, stews or Mexican style foods. Rabbits love to eat these so watch out and they definitely need a study support with a minimum of 5-6 feet (ca. 1 . m) high. Continuously produce flowers and beans all season long.
